Bravo Monsieur Shane Doan!

Bravo Monsieur Shane Doan! You have shown tremendous character by leading Team Canada to victory, with a hat trick no less! Hopefully the federal politicians who have wasted time and money on an old alleged slur against French-Canadian referees will now see your true colours and finally shut up about this matter!

Although Prime Minister Harper did call Mr. Doan to wish him and Team Canada good luck, he should have shown some real leadership and apologized. Let’s hope this matter is now closed for the sake of Mr. Doan and our team and the federal politicians get back to their day jobs – wasting most of our tax dollars. Whether or not Team Canada wins the world championship, Mr. Doan and the team should be invited to 24 Sussex Drive for a nice dinner (and an apology, quietly done or otherwise).

Federal Politicians Embarrass Canadians Once Again

I know that I am straying from my main theme here but I have to express my outrage at the actions of Canadian politicians who want to spend time on alleged remarks of a hockey player. Yes, hockey is Canada’s game. I also appreciate and accept Quebec and the French language as part of Canada. But to resurrect some purported slur from 2005 made by the current captain (Mr. Shane Doan) of Canada’s team currently playing (voluntarily, I might add) in Moscow and then summon Hockey Canada officials for questioning about his selection? Don’t the pols have anything better to do? Add me to those who are outraged at these idiots and embarrassed by their actions. I call on Prime Minister Harper to stop this nonsense and have the Canadian government apologize to Mr. Doan and the rest of Canadians for their actions.

I might also add that I was a fan of Mr. Ken Dryden when he played goal for the Montreal Canadiens (also my favourite team). But his defence of his colleagues followed by a statement that hockey is hardly their business makes no sense. Come Mr. Dryden, play politics with the same conviction that you played the game!
